The Silent Auction and Spaghetti Dinner last month was a marvelous success! A BIG thank you to all of those who donated, attended, or supported the Youth Fundraiser this year. The proceeds provided much appreciated financial support for the HS youth attending the Mission Trip to Colorado this summer. Over 30 youth will be spreading God’s love and giving their energy on the mission trip, and they cannot wait to go! YOU made it such a successful event, and we, the youth, are greatly blessed! Thank you!
When we choose to give our time, energy, and talents to serve others, we are taking part in God’s work to share the love of Christ and give God glory. Romans 12: 4-5 says, “For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” With God working in us and through us, we can make a difference!
Summer is going to be here before we know it! Do your plans for those glorious warm days include some time at camp? We hope so! Why not take some time to focus on your faith in new ways!

New Acolyte Sign-Up
Please click here to view next quarter's acolyte Sign-Up Genius. Remember, each Confirmation student is asked to acolyte AT LEAST once per year. Additionally, Pastor Bruce has asked that there be two acolytes for every service of Communion, so that Communion distribution can happen twice as fast. This means that we need more of you to sign up and complete this expectation! Sign up now before you forget.

Rachel's Wish List
Do you ever wonder what life would be like if we didn't ever have to sleep??! Until the day we figure out how, I am limited to a certain number of hours I can work each week. I have SO many great ideas for this ministry, but I can't fit them all in! Below is a list of projects that I can't seem to find time to get done by myself, but with your help, it is possible! Consider volunteering your time to help me accomplish these goals.

“New Beginnings” on Wednesday Nights!
I cannot be more excited for Wednesday night programming to start up at Light of Christ! Pastor Bruce and I look forward to working together to create an engaging new program for both youth and parents. Please note that we will have a literal “new beginning” time for Confirmation - Confirmation will start at 6:30pm on Wednesday nights in the Sanctuary. This change will allow for high school fellowship events on Wednesday nights starting at 8pm. Ninth through twelfth graders are welcome for worship, food, devotions, and fun on High School Fellowship (HSF) nights! Even though I am a rookie this year, I am confident that these new beginnings will be the start of a reinvigorated youth program, as fun and as vibrant as ever! I can’t wait to see youth and family at the Confirmation Kickoff at 6:30pm on Wednesday, September 14th.

Greetings members of Light of Christ!
My name is Rachel, and starting August 1st, I will be your new Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries. My first day at Light of Christ is approaching quickly and I cannot be more excited!
My passion for youth ministry was fostered during my summers spent as a camp counselor in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado. While there, I mentored campers during overnight camps, encouraged them on thrilling backpacking trips, and led fun activities during VBS day camps!
I graduated from St. Olaf College in 2015, and for the past year I have been living and serving in Jerusalem and the West Bank as a volunteer through the ELCA’s Young Adults in Global Mission program. I taught English at a school serving the Palestinian population for children with visual impairments and special needs. I also spent one day a week at the Lutheran church synod office at the Women’s Desk, where I organized seminars and wrote articles promoting gender justice in the church and society. These experiences have cultivated in me a passion for children’s faith education with an emphasis in service, creativity, and exploration.
For Palestinian Christians, the olive tree stands as a symbol for the steadfast, enduring love of God, rooted in community, and nourished by life-giving waters. I hope that I can contribute to and nurture Light of Christ’s children, youth, and family ministries so that the church can be an olive tree, a sign of comfort and revitalization, for all members. I ask for your prayers as I transition from Jerusalem back to Minnesota. I also ask that you be patient with and supportive of me as I settle into this new community and job. I cannot wait to meet each and every one of you, and I look forward to doing ministry and having fun together!
