Fat Tuesday Celebration
You may have heard of Mardi Gras, and while it may have gotten out of our control, Mardi Gras was actually a church festival first—translated from the French, it just means Fat Tuesday. On the day before people started their Lenten disciplines (mostly fasting), they would go out and celebrate all of the good gifts of God together. Seldom do we get the church telling us to indulge generously, so I like to celebrate this season by opening up a time for people to gather for a Fat Tuesday of our own. I will bring my deep fryer and prepare one of my favorites, (well, when I could eat gluten) deep fried Oreos, from 5:00-6:30 PM on Tuesday, February 17th. You are welcome to bring in anything else that you would like to share -- remember calories don’t count on Fat Tuesday. At about 6:30 we will burn the palms from last year to make ashes for Ash Wednesday. Please join us if you would like! Pastor Tim
