Light of Christ's ministries expand beyond the walls that make up our building. We strive to make a difference in our community and around the world through various partnerships and outreach programs. Contact the church office if you would like to be more involved in the service and relationship between these outreach programs.

Love INC (Love in the Name of Christ)

Light of Christ is one of the Love INC-Heartland's original partner churches.  LOC volunteers assist with the clothing ministry available through Love INC's Gift & Thrift store in Delano.  LOC members also work with Love INC programs contributing to Holiday Baskets, Adopt a Family, Back to School Supplies Collection and we house and supply all gifts for the Love INC Birthday Ministry.  Additionally, we contribute one percent of Light of Christ Sunday offerings to Love INC in support of their ministry.

5th Sunday Offering

Light of Christ 5th Sunday offerings support a variety of missions.  Past donations have included Delano Helping Hands Food Shelf, 2nd Harvest Heartland, the ELCA missionary Karen Anderson, and St. Stephen's.  5th Sunday offerings are contributions over and above regular giving by LOC members.

Karen Anderson (ELCA Missionary to Chile and Director of EPES International Training Program and founder of EPES and ELCA Global Mission Personnel in Chile)

Light of Christ financial contributions and prayers go to support the missionary outreach of Karen Anderson and her work with EPES (International Training Course in Popular Education in Health).  With LOC support the EPES programs help poor communities gain more control over their lives and health.  Education is the framework to assist poor communities in creating healthier lives for themselves.  EPES trainers have assisted in training hundreds of public health service workers throughout Chile and remote island communities.

Delano Helping Hands Food Shelf

Monetary and food donations are accepted year round at LOC to donate to the Food Shelf. In March a special Pack the Pews drive is done for the MN Food Share Campaign. LOC volunteers help at the Delano Food Shelf the 3 months of March, June, & December.

Nourishing HOPE Food Distribution

Each month, Light of Christ joins four other west metro churches to provide needed food to families/neighbors. A variety of fresh produce, dairy, canned goods and other staples are donated from Second Harvest, Untiedt's Produce and other sources (LOC offerings, local grant monies), and are delivered to Our Father’s Lutheran Church in Rockford on the second Monday of each month, where volunteers break down pallets and bags of food and then load hundreds of boxes which then go to the five distribution church sites. Boxes are distributed for free to anyone who comes.

Anyone can sign up to help with this important ministry to our neighbors. Some volunteers come to Our Father’s at 11:00 a.m. to help with a large group packing the boxes. That takes about an hour to an hour and a half. Then, a second group gathers at Light of Christ to get ready to distribute the boxes to vehicles which have begun to gather in our parking lot. We also distribute faith booklets to our guests (periodically), strike up a bit of friendly conversation, and we take their prayer requests, which we pray at the end of the distribution time (and also in our worship services in the coming weeks).

Each month we also need someone to rent a truck or trailer at Delano Rentals.

Needs are growing. You can help! Please click on the following links to sign up:
